This was one of those times when the constraints of a situation conspires to make something more than might normally transpire. We just left the Van Gogh Museum in Arles, and making our way down a narrow street when we passed a courtyard with an old blue cart in it. The cart was perhaps 60 feet away and I thought would be better photographed close up. Upon trying the gate to go into the courtyard, I found that it was locked. So what I saw was what I got. I put a telephoto lens on the camera, set up my tripod, and pushed the camera between the iron rods in the gate and this was the composition that I was given. Had I gotten into the courtyard I probably would have selected a different vantage point and lens and not been nearly as satisfied with the outcome.
