While on our way to visit the open air cathedral at Galgano in Tuscany (where the roof either was never completed or fell in), we came across this planted forest. The canopy of the leaves and the trunks, creating a vanishing point to the wild forest beyond, conspired to preview our destination with an open air cathedral of its own. I waited for the sun to go behind clouds to create the flat, painterly quality of the image.
